"We Pakistanis need an honest debate inside our country about what is Pakistan's national interest. We never have it,” said Hussain Haqqani, a former Pakistani diplomat and journalist, who was at IPI on November 19th to give a presentation on his latest book, Magnificent Delusions: Pakistan, the United States, and an Epic History of Misunderstanding.

IPI, Indonesia Hold International Forum in Jakarta

IPI’s President Terje Rød-Larsen told an audience of 1,300 in Jakarta that he hoped the Jakarta International Defense Dialogue (JIDD) would become “the preeminent forum for continued multilateral cooperation in the Asia-Pacific, seeking peace, progress, and prosperity for all the peoples of the region.”

The Istanbul Process: A Way Towards Peace in the Heart of Asia

“Renowned 21st century poet Muhammad Iqbal of Lahore used the term ‘heart of Asia’ to denote the strategic location of Afghanistan at the center of the Asian continent. This term has been the inspiration behind the Istanbul Process,” said Ambassador Ertuğrul Apakan, the Permanent Representative of Turkey to the United Nations.

Views from Afghanistan

On June 25th, IPI convened a meeting of its Forum on World Affairs for a discussion on the political and security situation in Afghanistan. The high-level roundtable meeting attracted a select group of UN ambassadors and senior officials from the UN Secretariat, among others, who discussed the question "What are the strategies to address the Afghanistan's political and security challenges?"

IPI organized the latest event its "SRSG Series" which featured Mr. Ian Martin, the Secretary-General's Special Representative in Nepal and Head of the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN).
